Call for Volunteers:

The American Thompson Association will be represented at the NRA Meetings in Louisville this year by presenting 1916-2016: The Centennial of Auto-Ordnance. This year’s display promises to be an exciting mix of the old and new Auto-Ordnance Corporation. The American Thompson Association needs volunteers from the membership to assist in setting up the display, greeting the visitors during the show and helping to dismantle the display at the conclusion of the event.

If you are attending the show, please consider volunteering a small amount of your time to help your association by being available for a day or so to set-up, man the booth during the show, or help tear down on Sunday. If you are attending the NRA but are not a member of The American Thompson Association and wish to join, please contact me for membership information. This is a great way for new members to meet the people associated with the organization.

Please contact me by email (cschauer@clpes.com) or phone (708-752-0527) if you can volunteer a day or two. I will be making the schedule in the next week or so.

Sincerely,

Chuck Schauer
President

All,

Hope to see some of the Board members here at the NRA Show in Louisville this coming week. Stop by The American Thompson Association booth at the show and say hello. There will be some interesting Thompson Guns on display.

Darryl I think it's in Atlanta next year- hope you can make it.

This years display is truly amazing.

How often do you get a chance to see a sample of just about every Thompson ever made?

The conversation ain't bad either.

The American Thompson Association display in the Collectors Corner at the NRA 2016 Convention in Louisville, Kentucky is a big hit among the NRA members. The TATA volunteers are always busy showcasing the 100 Years of the Auto-Ordnance Corporation. We have one more day then everyone can take a well deserved rest. The great pictures by David, above, will give everyone a feel for the display. That said, pictures pale in comparison to experiencing the complete display. Shown below is one feature of the display that attracted a lot of attention!

Unfortunately, sound effects were not permitted!

Drove a roundtrip to just see this display and it was worth it. A quick entrance into the convention center directly to the TATA display and a zig zag on the way out. It was worth the hours of driving, now on the other hand the extra time to get from the highway to the convention center was errr frustrating but I managed to navigate it without too much stress.

Wow great pics, thanks for posting!

On a somewhat related note, I visited the FBI vs Baby Face Nelson battle memorial site in Barrington IL today while overnighting in town. I recall reading an article on the local paper years ago about a long retired telephone repairman that witnessed the entire battle. Those agents showed great courage to the end.

I received my first award ever from the NRA Gun Collectors Committee today... They awarded my Toy Tommy Gun and Maguire Industries WWII employee badge Gun Collectors Committee Certificate of Merit #198 during the awards ceremony this morning. I acquired the combo 10 years ago from the son of the lady pictured on the employee badge. After the Thompson stopped being produced during WWII, the Auto-Ordnance Division of Maguire Industries used leftover wood stocks, and marketed these wooden toy Tommy Guns. There are only 6 known remaining in existence. The lady on the badge worked where they were manufactured, and her son was never allowed to play with it, which he indicated was probably what saved it from destruction...

Tracie's no number Model of 1919 was awarded a silver medal, and the display overall won an award, but not the coveted Best Display award. One of his early web pouches also received a certificate. The display has been a crowd pleaser.

Was going to post some photos too, but David's are better.

Mine were compromised by the constant stream of people wanting to look at the exhibit!

One thing only a video would show: The center "0" in the center "100 Years" sign has a the front half of a Thompson and C drum pointing straight out. Traci engineered a rapidly blinking LED in the comp, so it looks like the Thompson is firing (no sound allowed) all day long (much like the drums in the movies).

Here's a partial bird's eye view; you can see the barrel towards the top right corner.
