Hopalong
I recently applied for a C&R so the seller of the Thompson M1A1 I purchased can ship it directly to me once the form 4 is approved. Obviously, once the C&R is approved I want to jump on the form 4 application ASAP. My dilemma is that none of the law enforcement agencies in my county are offering fingerprinting services due to the coronavirus, nor can they tell me when they're going to resume. Has anyone here tried rolling their own prints, and if so, did you have any problems with ATF accepting them? Thanks.
Robert Henley
I recall a post not too long ago, maybe a year or so ago, in which this was discussed. One poster indicated he rolled his own prints without a problem. You might search to see if you can find the post. Robert

Hopalong
Thanks, guys. Jim, how long of a delay did the rejected prints cause? Edited May 31, 2020 by Hopalong
jim c 351
Hoppy,Fortunately, no delay. At that moment in time I had 2 sets in, a silencer and a Tommy. I mentioned this fact to the lady and she discovered one set had passed. So she kindly put both items thru on the good prints.Next time I'm temped to criticize Federal employees , I always remember her.Jim C

RogerD
If you can find a local law enforcement agency that does the prints with LIVE SCAN it's a great option. For the uninitiated there is a small glass plate in a device hooked up to a computer. The prints are rolled on the glass, scanned, and approved when the program gets enough points for the necessary classification. When complete the ATF applicant card is inserted into the printer and prints out the card along with your information. No ink, no smudges, no rejections.

kp31
No police department is open here, either and but just found a company who just opened back up.I'm guessing this may have slowed down Form 4 submissions a bit recently as many people don't try themselves? The seller is signing the form 4 applications and mailing them back to me. Hopefully, I will have everything ready to mail to ATF by next week. I did this Friday, and it worked very well. It was quick, and it only cost me $10 for each of the two cards. I also had my photos taken that morning at CVS Pharmacy, which cost $16, and the form 4 application went into the mail that afternoon.
Ryo
Worst case scenario if your fingerprint cards are not good, they would just inform you and you have to send replacements. Also I found out from some FFLs, that they print the photo of the person directly on the Form 4. I was surprised to hear that. Another savings!
Bill in VA
Like other posters, I’ve rolled my prints many times and never had them rejected. If you’ve never done, practice a few times beforw you roll your cards for submission.

Nomad3006
I did my own on my last Form 4. No issues getting them approved, used a card holder too. Only issues I had was getting the prints to come out right. I was doing some M1 Garand wood stock work prior to this and a bunch of tung and lindseed oil was on my hands a few days prior to doing the prints....made things pretty interesting when trying to roll my prints but I eventually got them right.
