maxfaxdude
Sturmgewehr has a 3 digit Colt Thompson for sale with compensator slots cut at the end of the barrel. http://www.sturmgewehr.com/forums/index.php?/topic/17774-rare-colt-thompson-irish-sword-3-digit-serial-number-range/ I've never seen this on a Thompson before. gijive
Wow, nice way to ruin a beautiful original gun. Too bad!
jim c 351
The bluing doesn't look right either.looks like it needs a reblue and new barrel, and $28k would be a more appropriate price.Jim C
Arthur Fliegenheimer
According to GH, #957 was not among the 600 "Irish Sword" serial numbers. It went to Austin, Texas. A poster in the Sturmgewehr thread asked if an Irishman had cut the barrel vents. Maybe, but they did it here in the colonies.
reconbob
I agree. That is not the original finish. It looks likeit was cold blued. It would be interesting - as always -to know what it eventually sells for. Bob
Got Uzi
But, but, but, but its a COLT so its worth a small fortune. It should sell for the asking price.....I say in a joking manor. Yeah that gun is only over priced by $20k but people come up with some crazy prices anymore.
bug
I'd guess a clever approach to dealing with a bulged barrel. The slots were cut after the barrel was ruined. That would be a numbered barrel if original.
MrBill
I bought Colt 13299 from Mr Layton several years ago. The Colt came from home town and as i recall, It was not a easy transaction. The good news is the barrel has the correct comp weather he knew it or not.
TD.
"...not an easy transaction." To all of the new members of this forum thinking about purchasing that first Thompson - pay attention to that warning. Spending a little too much for a machine gun may bother some, but if the transaction is trouble free, it will be money well spent in the long run. Having your first Class 3 transaction become a problem or nightmare after paying a seller a lot of money...nuff said The Class 3 community is fairly small. Spend some time learning who you are dealing with. To that end, if you are looking for a Colt Thompson, PM me as I know a first rate owner who is selling a couple of Colt's. maxfaxdude
"Having your first Class 3 transaction become a problem or nightmare after paying a seller a lot of money...nuff said" This is very, very true. I bought a "new unfired" MP5 RR from a very-well known machinegun dealer in Florida for top dollar at his asking price several years ago. Gun came into my dealer and upon inspection I saw more carbon build-up inside that receiver than I'd ever seen on any firearm in my life -- far from new/unfired. Called seller immediately demanding my money back and he initially refused saying I was being too picky. Several days later I reminded seller that it's a small world and that I'd tell everyone about the transaction. He very begrudgingly sent me a check 2 weeks later for the full purchase price. Be extra careful who you deal with.
michaelkih
Obviously not original, but that's pretty nice looking. If done professionally way in the past, I could be into it.
