StrangeRanger
They had 2 M1s hammer for $35K each plus a 15% buyer's premium works out to $40.25K which makes me a very happy M1 owner but wondering if M1 prices have nearly doubled or whether this auction is an outlier. The Baldwin-Felts 1921with a vintage FBI case only hammered at $55K or $63.25K with premium which seems light given the provenance. ranger1385
I have a theory on all this! I believe that all the FIAT currency that the government has put out there is driving up the prices. The FED has been pumping $120 Billion a month into the economy (buying junk bonds). Tangible assets are a solid investment during inflation. While I'm glad my collection is appreciating too, It's not a good thing. IMHO!
TD.
NO 1423, the Baldwin-Felts and Virginia State Police Model of 1921A, appeared well used. Take a close look at the metal. In addition, the wood was re-finished and the grip was basically ruined. On the plus side was an original Police hardcase with what appeared to be an original long cleaning rod. At 63K, I believe there are much better deals to be had. It will be interesting to see what NAVY NO 5235 brings today at auction.
StrangeRanger
Today's TSMGs (hammer prices, add 15% and state taxes) Savage 28A1 w unmarked FBI style case $37.5KM1A1 $35KM1A1 $32.5K21/28 overstamp $60KWH28 35K That pretty much confirms the two M1s that hammered at $35 yesterday. But in what world is a WH 28 worth more than a GI M1/M1A1 and almost as much as a Savage 28A1? I simply can't wrap my head around thatI also expected a little more out of the overstamp given the overall level of prices Yesterday a Winchester BAR went for $55K; today a Colt BAR went for $50K, both of which seemed low by comparison but in general, the rifle caliber guns are not going up as much as the SMGs Don't even ask me about the PPSh41 Edited December 4, 2021 by StrangeRanger

mnshooter
Don't even ask me about the PPSh41 So, how much did the PPSH41 sell for? (Flaunting my ignorance: I can go the auction/catalog, but can't seem to find the sold prices). Edited December 5, 2021 by mnshooter
StrangeRanger
I told you not to ask It hammered at $35K, that's $40.25K with premiumWith my 6.75% tax rate it would have cost me $43K out the door.I got steamrollered somewhere south of $24K
johnsonlmg41
A bargain.....compared to a 27.5K sten MKV plus prem. Seems like the guys from the Stern auction finally broke even and started bidding again! I don't know how many years or decades it will take to break even on a WH28 at over 40K? OTOH, if inflation stays at 6% for for 5 years or so, a guy could get lucky? LOL
StrangeRanger
Lots of stupid money over the last two days, not just on NFA stuff either. I didn't make a note on the Mk V Sten because I don't care about them but you're right about it being ridiculous. At least the Chauchat only hammered at $5.5K, still about $6K too high

TD.
Auto-Ordnance "Shipping Order" documentation is a very special and rare piece of Colt era paper. Regarding the type of gun cases, I would guess canvas. In 1937, this could be from either MILLS or RUSCO.
Got Uzi
I was in the phone with RIA for a couple of the dewat guns to restore and flip yesterday......yeah be grateful you have what you have as things are skyrocketing at a pace that is honestly scary. At this rate, the machine gun hobby will consist of older guys with pensions to spend as they dont need the money, millionaires looking for new toys as their car collections are boring, or Guns that were handed down by fathers/grandfathers. Young guys (35-45) wont be able to afford the buy in on this stuff....as if most can now. Its a double edge sword of the worst kind-want to make money off your investments but you also need new buyers to keep it going.

So, likely still the canvas cases as Tom suggested. giantpanda4
I know the previous owner of the Eaton Co. gun. The case was original and sold with the gun at the RIA a year ago, I suspect that is where the copy of the order form was procured. I am sure there are pictures of the case. I was my opinion that gun only came with a hard case.

The late date of 1937 would then confirm that there was no chance that the original AOC ever offered F.B.I./PD style hard cases. colt21a
Well lets say a guy age 55 today buys a Thompson for $50 g and lives to sell it at age 75. for lets say $100g, who will be around to buy it then? since if he is 75 at that time he will have to sell to somebody younger. which means a 45 year old guy today or younger. and that guy will be a 65 year old buyer by that time for $100 g.{ WHAT DOES HE EXPECT TO SELL IT FOR $179G IN TEN YEARS} and everybody always says its a Investment can sell for more when i tire of it. i do remember selling complete cased set Thompsons mint cond for 15 and 20 g. and hearing moans and maybe too much. however what 50 or 60 g is real fair today. I think the whole class 3 deal is headed another route in the coming decade. I always hear talk of guys wanting this or that i locate it and wow i was expecting 10 g less.heck its only dough right how much can you get back in the future? RON K.
