Colt Chopper
I just returned from the TCA event in New Philadelphia, Ohio, Had a great time, great weather, very nice displays, and as always, enjoyed visiting with new and old friends, Unfortunately it ended on a bad note when I returned to the Holiday Inn Sunday evening,As I entered the clerk at the front desk inquired what was in the cases I had, and was informed "NO FIREARMS" ARE ALLOWED on their premises.Civil conversation went no where, I had been there since Friday, I had no choice but to gather my belongings and vacate there hotel as I was not about to leave the firearms in my vehicle. I contacted Holiday Inn corporate this morning to question this policy, and was informed that this was Holiday Inn's policy through out the United States, other than one place in Texas. Personally, no Holiday Inn will ever see another dime of my money as long as I live, others might consider this policy when traveling in the future. David, if this is posted on the wrong board, I apologize. Again, great time at TCA, look forward to it again in the future. Jack
RoscoeTurner
Reading back through ten years worth of discussions on this, similar policies have been in place at the various chains for at least that long.I would contact the manager of the hotel you stayed at to confirm if it was their location's policy or if the desk clerk was enforcing his own rule. I have never had a problem staying at HIE with firearms.https://www.concealedcarry.com/safety/concealed-carry-laws-and-tactics-for-hotels/#policy IHG Hotels Gun Policy (Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza, Avid, Staybridge, Candlewood, Hotel Indigio, EVEN Hotels, Kimptom, Hualuxe, Intercontinental Hotels & Resorts, IHG does not have a system-wide policy regarding the ability to carry firearms on property at IHG branded hotels. Rather, we believe this decision is a local one that rests with our franchisees, the overwhelming majority of which do not have policies prohibiting firearms at their hotels. It makes me wonder about the individual that Jack spoke to at corporate HQ. People often insert their own agendas until called out on it, "May I please see the written policy or document that prohibits me from possession?" Then they start fumbling around with excuses.... R67
We have an excellent Gun Show every August at our local Airport Holiday Inn. It is held in the conference room. It is the Oregon Arms 2-Day show. Maybe 1,000 guns of different types on tables and slung on shoulders. The Oregon Arms Collectors have been doing this show at the Holiday Inn forever. Here is a photo I took from the last show, of my friend's M1 table... So I guess Holiday Inn Oregon does not have a blanket policy about firearms. Colt Chopper
Obviously everyone has had different experiences at different locations. At 54 years old, over 20 years as an FFL, I have never had an issue regarding this subject before. But this instance has left a permanent impression on my view of the HIE chain, and will never be forgotten.
LSU Tiger
There have been several business chains that have come out anti-gun in the past several years. "Panera Bread" comes to mind at once. I'm not a huge fan of the NRA, but they've published a list of their enemies. The link isn't comprehensive, but it is a start. Personally, I refuse to conduct business with any anti-gun business or company. https://www.opposingviews.com/category/nra-releases-list-celebrities-organizations-support-gun-control
Got Uzi
Just got off the phone with the Hell-iday Inn CC is referring to and spoke with the manager who was on duty at the time. She said, and I quote it was a safety concern for my guests and my front desk clerk, so I told him he couldnt have it in the building in the same conversation she stated that concealed carry is fine and you can have that in your room but she could not produce this policy she continued to refer to. Only stating that she was going to have to contact corporate and discuss it with them. Btw I called corporate.....spoke with them and they said if the location says that, they can enforce that as it is their right to refuse service but she thought it was sketchy that it was on the third night there was an issue. CC call corporate as they would like to talk to you and document this for the hotels record. Ill also be posting this information at my range and letting other shooting groups who use my range know this is their stance as well.
mohawk64
I always thought that when you rented a room it was the same as being your property for the time rented. R67
Why would you tell the hotel what is in your bags? Just politely refuse to answer. If they push it, than threaten legal action under the 4th Amendment against illegal searches of your property. A minimum wage hotel staff will not push back. Sandlewood_3
Probably increased sensitivity following the Vegas shooting. I have been at a holiday inn where every one there was a shooter in the cmp games and were cleaning m1 garand in the parking lot. That was a few years ago. Next they search Jacks cases and find a TSMG and a BAR. Then Jack would spend the next 4 hours explain the guns are legal. Jack did the right thing, thank God you weren't present to advise him. ron_brock
Yall telling Jack he should have done this, that, or the other are sorta like Monday armchair quarterbacks. He did the right thing as number one rule when walking around with machine guns is to not draw attention to yourself. Also bear in mind that HI pays the property taxes, therefore it ain't your personal space. Now if they cannot produce a written policy on something that he signed and they did not have a sign you may have a case against them. For sure it was uneasiness due to cases ala Las Vegas. That said, Jack was profiled, discriminated against and should have a case with the ACLU.Gun owners could be a powerful force if they banded together as a combined force, but it seems the other side is better about doing that. I even tried to find a comprehensive list of anti gun establishments and struggled. If such a thing were published all the time by NRA you think businesses will take a hit. I try to do business with companies that like me.Sorry about your experience Jack, must have made for a fun night. I hope they refunded one nights stay.Ron
dalbert
I think it's prudent to continue the conversation with Holiday Inn Express corporate. I stayed at one of their hotels at least every other week for 2 years, and never even thought of the issue. Their hotels are well maintained, and I'd prefer to keep them as an option, though I'm upset with how they treated CC. That will certainly weigh on any upcoming hotel decisions, as will anything we learn from the follow-up. Like CC, if asked, I would say yes, I have firearms. Some may be comfortable with deflection, but that's a personal decision, and I certainly understand it, though it would not be my natural response. Got Uzi, With you being in the area, and its proximity to Tusco, I would think you might be able to apply the most pressure on this particular Holiday Inn Express location through the methods you mentioned. Jim CI agree with Jim C on his assessment of the situation. I was there with Jack when this occurred, but was not present when he was confronted by the front desk clerk. Getting the local police involved may certainly have made the situation worse. Being a former law enforcement officer myself, I am of the opinion that most local small-town police officers wouldn't know much about Federal Firearms Laws and NFA weapons and it may have turned into a long night of explaining down at the local police station. Besides, it was a Sunday evening and there would have been no way to contact any State or Federal authorities for clarification on the legalities involved. There was no issue the previous two nights so I think this boils down to the individual clerk on duty that evening, Originally they weren't even going to refund the Sunday night stay when it was requested. Although we had a nice dinner planned with Jack, he handled the situation in the most expedient manner possible. I'm sure the Holiday Inn or IHG couldn't care less if I ever stayed in one of their hotels again, but I will certainly try to avoid using them again when traveling. ALLUTAH
LSU Tiger, that's quite a list! looks like it takes in most of Hollywood, at least Keanu Reeves isn't on it. I'm also not a big fan of the NRA since I don't see them helping the class 3 community, but I intend to use that list.
Got Uzi
Gijive-I would have loved to seen the New Phila PD get involved as the 3 captains for the department are friends of mine. I relayed the story to one of them and he started laughing. Said he wasnt surprised that some liberal cry baby would pull that kind of stunt. Arthur Fliegenheimer
Just a cursory reading of the NRA list of celebrities turns up a dozen names of deceased people. Some as far back as 2010. Surely there are living anti-gunners in Hollywood and the music industry that could substitute for those who no longer pose a threat to the 2nd Amendment.
